The Watermark at 3030 Park announced that Westport artist Toby Michaels and Stamford artist Mary Louise Long will have their work featured at Art/Place Gallery @ The Watermark, from Nov. 14 through Dec. 26.
The opening reception for their exhibit, entitled “Myth & Symbol,” will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
The Watermark at 3030 Park retirement community is located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Fairfield/Bridgeport town line.
The artists will discuss their work during the reception. There will also be
refreshments as well as a performance by pianist Tony Procaccini.
Michaels has a master’s degree in art therapy and counseling. She practiced for 17 years at Norwalk Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry, where she initiated an art therapy program.
She has also served as an adjunct professor of art therapy at Quinnipiac University.
Michaels currently works as a full-time artist and is a member of the Fairfield Arts Center and Silvermine Guild of Art.
“For me, making art means looking into the ‘unseen’ cosmic and universal
possibilities that give life to artistic expression,” Michaels said.
“I am thrilled to be presenting at Art/Place Gallery @ The Watermark and hope that residents and guests will enjoy and connect with my work.”
Long studied painting at American University in Washington, D.C. and has a graduate degree in printmaking from Montclair State University in New Jersey.
She has served as a lecturer and art curator at Bloomfield College in New Jersey
and as a visiting artist at Trinity College in Hartford, where she taught printmaking.
Currently based out of the Loft Artist Building in Stamford, Long is a member of the College Art Association, Center for Contemporary Printmaking and the Monotype Guild of New England.
“My abstract monotypes focus on brilliant colors and powerful forms,” Long said. “As the colors play against one another, the created shapes develop a life of their own. “My interest in classical mythology and poetry contributes to the
imagery of the work as well.”
The collaboration between The Watermark at 3030 Park and Art/Place, a nonprofit, cooperative art gallery celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, aims to provide Watermark residents, guests of The Watermark, and the public with the opportunity to experience the work of fine artists such as Michaels and Long.
Art/Place Gallery @ The Watermark is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m
