HAMPTON — Aquarion Water Co. is selling discounted recycled rain barrels to its New Hampshire customers as part of its ongoing water conservation efforts. Aquarion serves customers in Hampton, North Hampton and parts of Rye.
Rain barrels store rain water runoff from a roof or gutter downspout to be used later as a free source of water. A quarter inch of rain from an average roof is enough to fill a 60-gallon barrel and the water can be used to fill watering cans, connect to garden hoses, feed drip irrigation systems and for other outdoor chores.
“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to conserve water and save money through the use of rain barrels,” said John Walsh, Aquarion vice president of operations. “Using rain barrels can also help to mitigate pollution in New Hampshire’s water supplies by limiting stormwater runoff.”
Aquarion is offering rain barrels to its customers for $75, compared to the retail price of $125. To order, visit www.aquarionwater.com or call Skyjuice New England at (207) 363-1505. Orders must be received by May 21. The barrels, which will fit in the backseat of most cars, will be available for pickup May 27-30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Aquarion Water Co., 7 Scott Road, Hampton.
