Connecticut’s quasi-public authority for technology investment is giving a New Haven-based company $150,000 to complete development of a technology platform that will use cloud-computing to allow doctors to more easily share information.
Connecticut Innovations’ investment in Notifyi LLC is being match by money from individual investors, said Claire Leonardi, the state agency’s chief executive officer and executive director. The money from CI is coming from its Pre-Seed Fund.
“Designed by physicians for physicians, the Notifyi platform has great potential to increase the efficiency of communications and information sharing in the health care field,” Leonardi said in a written statement. “We’re delighted to help advance the company’s product development and testing with this funding. These types of investments are important to supporting Governor Malloy’s strategy to grow Connecticut’s innovation economy.”
The platform Notifyi is developing incorporates messaging capabilities – e-mail, text, pager, fax and smart phone – as well as physician and practice profiles. It allows physicians to send clinical messages to other physicians securely, while enabling recipients to choose when and how they are notified.
The platform will also include conferencing capabilities, discussion forums and blogs, administrative tools, and customized message receipts. It is designed to comply with all federal laws regarding health information security and privacy.
Senai Asefaw, president and co-founder of Notifyi, said that “modern health care delivery requires the involvement of multiple physicians in a variety of outpatient and inpatient settings.”
“Notifyi’s physician collaboration tool enables a patient’s entire team of doctors to stay on the same page, leading to better coordinated, higher quality, and more cost-effective care,” Asefaw said.
CI’s Pre-Seed Fund provides loans of up to $150,000 to Connecticut-based startup and early-stage technology companies. Funding may be used for a wide range of startup expenses such as accounting, legal, intellectual property development, technology and prototype development.
