New Britain, CT – Wilton-based Wilson Properties was
recently recognized by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental
Protection (DEEP) for its leadership and commitment to reducing its energy
consumption and air pollution during the summer months of 2011. The property
management company was one of twenty organizations statewide to receive a
“Summer Saver” award.

Working with experts from Connecticut Light &
Power (CL&P) to make use of incentives offered by the Energy Efficiency
Fund, Wilson Properties retrofitted one of its six commercial properties – the
Kent Building located at 43 Danbury Road in Wilton – by installing a 75 ton high
efficiency HVAC unit with direct digital system control for energy management.
They also installed high efficiency fluorescent lighting throughout the 21,000
square foot building.

“Wilson Properties has always believed that
well-maintained buildings attract and retain desirable tenants,” said Leland
Wilson, President of Wilson Properties. “We closely monitor operating costs to
identify opportunities for savings. Participating in the Energy Efficiency Fund
program was an effortless way to realize dramatic cost savings. Wilson
Properties strives to employ the best property management practices in the
industry and to use the most energy efficient technologies available.”

From May through September of 2009, the Kent Building’s electricity
consumption was 58,483 kilowatt-hours (kWh). After completing the energy
efficiency upgrades, the building saw an energy consumption reduction of 38
percent to 36,326 kWh in 2010, and a reduction of 45 percent to 32,261 kWh in
2011.

“Wilson Properties is the perfect example of a company that has
committed itself to energy efficiency and as a result has seen tremendous energy
and cost savings,” said Richard Steeves, First Vice-Chair of the Energy
Efficiency Board. “We look forward helping them continue to upgrade their other
properties by leveraging the Energy Efficiency Fund and its available
incentives.”
