The Watermark at East Hill will host a free health lecture on shingles Tuesday, June 5. Dr. Jennifer Ongchin, a physician at Alliance Medical Group in Woodbury, will be the speaker. The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the retirement community on East Hill Road in Southbury.
For her lecture, Dr. Ongchin will discuss the symptoms, treatment and prevention of shingles, which affects a million people each year in the United States. She will also discuss who is at risk, what causes shingles, and how the disease is diagnosed.
“With the number of shingles cases going up each year, it’s more important than ever to make sure you have the knowledge to prevent them, and what to do if you get them,” said Denise Julian, director of health services at The Watermark at East Hill.
Dr. Ongchin is a board-certified physician currently serving as doctor of osteopathy at the Alliance Medical Group in Woodbury. She studied at both the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and at the School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, N.J. She received post-graduate training at the Yale Primary Care Center and is currently affiliated with Waterbury Hospital.
Those who would like to attend, should RSVP by calling The Watermark at East Hill at 203-262-6868. Seating is limited for this lecture. Breakfast will be served.
