The town of Cheshire received a $10,000 Bright Idea grant from Energize Connecticut for having 17 percent of its households perform an energy efficiency audit.
Cheshire has pledged to the Clean Energy Communities program, to reduce municipal building energy consumption 20 percent by 2018 and have municipal building’s electricity use be 20 percent renewable by 2018.
Towns in the program earn 100 points toward rewards for businesses and homes participating in the state’s energy efficiency programs, which improve lighting, heating and cooling, and insulation.
Cheshire plans to use its $10,000 for either windows in a town building or an electric vehicle charging station.
