On Thursday, June 12, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host its monthly Parkinson’s Support Group meeting, along with its Parkinson’s Fitness Class. The support group will be held at 10:00 a.m. Fitness classes are held every Tuesday at 2:30 and every Thursday at noon at the senior living community, located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.
This month’s guest speaker will be Charlene Hancock, a registered occupational therapist and Director of Independence Rehabilitation. She will discuss the benefits of physical therapy with emphasis on speech therapy as it relates to managing symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
“Charlene has extensive experience working in rehabilitative care, and we look forward to her bringing great information to this month’s meeting,” said Marlane Argianas, Resident Services Coordinator at The Watermark at 3030 Park. “Her knowledge of different physical and occupational therapies as well as her own practical advice will help group members find treatment options to suit their own individual needs.”
A resident of Milford, Hancock received a bachelor’s degree in allied health and occupational therapy from Quinnipiac College.
In addition to monthly Parkinson’s Support Group meetings, The Watermark also offers a bi-weekly Parkinson’s Fitness Class consisting of a warm-up, balance and strengthening exercises and a cool-down/stretch period. The class meets every Tuesday at 2:30 and Thursday at noon and is led by Cindy McGuire, Fitness Director at The Watermark.
Reservations are required for the fitness class and there is a small participation fee. For more information or to RSVP please contact Cindy McGuire at 203-373-6108.
