Volunteers from Aquarion Water Co. celebrated Earth Day by partnering with Urban Roots and the city of Bridgeport to restore the Pequonnock Street community garden.
Aquarion Water Co. employees partnered with volunteers from Urban Roots Bridgeport Community Gardens and the city of Bridgeport to restore the Pequonnock Street garden for the growing season.
Volunteers cleared garden beds, spread fresh soil, assisted with planting and repaired fencing around the site. The group also constructed a rain garden, which collects storm water runoff for plants.
“As stewards of the environment, we are pleased to see so many of our employees participate in Earth Day projects that help make our communities better places to live,” said George Logan, Aquarion’s director of Engineering & Water Resource Planning. “Urban Roots does a tremendous community service by creating a network of gardens that provide people in the area with healthy, organic food sources.”
Urban Roots Bridgeport Community Gardens transforms abandoned city spaces into sustainable farm plots. The site on Pequonnock Street is one of several community gardens located throughout Bridgeport.
